January 20, 2012 – Springs Memorial Hospital is proud to announce that it has been named by Press Ganey Associates, Inc., as a 2011 Summit Award® winner. Press Ganey currently partners with more than 10,000 health care facilities —including 50% of all U.S. hospitals — to measure and improve quality of care.
The Press Ganey Summit Award recognizes top-performing facilities that sustain the highest level of quality performance for three consecutive years. This award is the health care industry’s most coveted symbol of achievement that is awarded annually. Springs Memorial Hospital is one of 98 organizations to receive this prestigious honor in 2011, and one of eleven to receive it for achieving and sustaining excellence in quality performance.
Robert Draughon, Press Ganey’s CEO noted, "We are proud to partner with Springs Memorial Hospital. Springs Memorial Hospital’s innovative approach to improving clinical processes and outcomes helps to advance the quality of health care in Lancaster and in the surrounding communities.”
According to Karen Martin, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at SMH, the award represents important recognition within the industry for their quality performance.
“As an organization that is driven by a quality oriented philosophy, it is gratifying to see that our efforts have resulted in the level of performance that merits this kind of recognition,” Martin said.
Judy Robinson, Chief Quality and Compliance Officer of SMH added, “Springs Memorial Hospital measures our clinical performance based on scores that affect patients’ clinical outcomes. These scores and outcomes are commonly referred to as core measures.”
Core measures are specific national quality clinical measures that, when viewed together, permit a robust assessment of the quality of care provided in a given focus area.
“Our physicians and nurses take pride in knowing we are doing the right thing for each patient,” said Doug Arbour, Chief Executive Officer of Springs Memorial Hospital. “It is a great honor to be recognized for our outcomes by such a prestigious leader in performance improvement.”
